Graz is a city in the southern part of Austria where history, modern design and the drive for innovation come together. The mild climate, the rich architecture, but also the people living in Graz create an almost mediterranean flair. The historic center of the city became UNESCO world heritage in 1999. Since 2011 Graz is City of Design being part of the international UNESCO Creative Cities network. This combination of tradition and innovation is attractive for visitors but also for people living and working in Graz. As the capital of Styria, a federal state with the highest R&D ratio within Austria, Graz hosts four universities, two universities of applied sciences and several other education and research facilities. The young people coming from all over the world and studying in these institutions contribute a lot to the exciting atmosphere of Graz. As a city well connected to the world, Graz is easily accessible by plane, train or car.
