The University of Graz (Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz) is one of Austria’s oldest and most prestigious universities. Located in the vibrant city of Graz, it is renowned for its wide-ranging academic programs offered by six faculties and its commitment to research and education. With a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary studies, the university provides a platform for innovation and cultural exchange.

History

The University of Graz was founded in 1585 by Archduke Charles II of Austria. Emperor Franz I, who reestablished it in 1827, is the second patron in the name of the university. Over the centuries, it has grown into a comprehensive university, playing a significant role in the intellectual and cultural development of the region. Today, it is the second-largest university in Austria. In natural sciences a comprehensive collaboration with Graz University of Technoloy was established (NAWI Graz), offering joint bachelor and master programs in chemistry, mathematics, geosciences and materials science.
